DRI PreK-College Education Outreach

The vision of DRI’s Education Outreach is to build a Nevada STEM-literate workforce.

To realize this vision, DRI collaborates with partners and sponsors to provide STEM education resources, training, and interventions to educators, students and families across the state. DRI’s PreK-College education resources are brought to you through the STEM Education Program and Nevada Robotics through our partners and sponsors.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Professional Development programs that empower educators & transform the learning experience.

Drone Education

Nevada Robotics is reaching new heights by providing educational drone professional development and drone competition organization and support for 3rd – 12th grade teachers and their students. Local drone competitions are open to the public and are fun, fast-paced events.

METRICS

Mentoring Educators Teaching Robotics and Innovation in Computer Science is a three-part hands-on professional development program for PreK – 5 educators that demonstrates how to use robots as learning tools in the classroom. Teachers leave with free supplies and materials so they can immediately integrate STEM learning.

STEM Co-Lab Technology Trainings

Preparing Nevada’s educators with real world science information and expertise so they can transmit that information to their students. DRI’s STEM Education Team hosts professional development teacher trainings throughout the year.

Drone Lending Library

Indoor educational drones are available for check-out from branches in Reno, Las Vegas, Elko, and Mesquite to teachers interested in participating in Aerial Drone Competitions through the REC Foundation.

Green Boxes are self-contained teaching kits that provide educators with two or more weeks worth of STEM lesson plans along with all of the supplies necessary to conduct each activity.

Robot Lending Library

Nevada Robotics Libraries are located in Reno, Las Vegas, Elko, and Mesquite and contain more than 730 units. Educators may check out robots for part or all of the school year or even for summer semesters and enrichment camps

Books and Bots

Reading and Robots! Books and Bots are Nevada Robotics PreK – 5th grade lessons and activities based on popular and diverse story books. All lessons and activities meet learning standards and include social emotional learning connections and applications.

Project ROSE

Remote Operated Sample Extraction – With the mentorship of DRI cloud seeding scientists, recent UNR grads and students designed, created, and tested a prototype to collect remote snow samples to improved the ability for scientists to retrieve samples from remote and treacherous terrain.

Robotics Outreach Crew

Robotics Outreach Crew members are employed by Nevada Robotics and are college students and recent graduates. ROC staffers plan to work in STEM or education fields. They provide technical support, work with educators at training, engage in outreach, and prepare teaching and learning materials.

Pre-Service Teacher Training

We provide in-class training for Nevada’s future educators at Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) institutions around the state. The college students learn how to teach and integrate STEM skills in their classrooms. We are upskilling the state’s next generation of educators.

STEM Force Program engages at-risk youth in a STEM-intensive experience, sparking interests, developing career connections, and identifying pathways for the future. This program promotes equity through STEM exposure and engagement, preparing southern Nevada’s vulnerable youth for successful futures.

Community Engagement

The STEM Education Program and Nevada Robotics is out and about in Nevada meeting people where they live, work, and learn. Look for us tabling at family activities and events such as Earth Day (Reno), May the Science Be With You (Las Vegas), and Beats and Bites (Elko). The goal of community engagement is to increase interest and raise awareness of STEM learning and opportunities.

EnergySmart Education

Outreach programs to K-12 schools throughout Nevada to teach and promote energy consumption awareness and energy conservation.

School STEM Nights

Nevada Robotics provides staff for school STEM and STEAM nights in Northern Nevada to engage families in creative activities that spark a love of computer science, robotics, and engineering. Our goal is to demonstrate that STEM learning is accessible and fun.
