Mountain Rain or Snow

Project Description

Mountain Rain or Snow is a community-powered research project that aims to improve our tools for predicting winter precipitation. Community observers throughout the country submit real-time observations of rain, snow, and mixed precipitation, ground-truthing winter weather so that we can learn more about the transition from snow to rain in mountainous areas.

This project began collecting data in 2020 as Tahoe Rain or Snow and has since expanded to multiple mountain regions throughout the United States. Now known as Mountain Rain or Snow, you can learn more about the project including the scientific background, recent research findings, and instructions to participate on Mountain Rain or Snow’s website.
