Great Basin Tribal Alliance logo

Mission: The Great Basin Tribal Alliance is an Indigenous-led, culturally-relevant forum for Indigenous communities of the Great Basin to explore ways to connect, engage, and take leadership in climate resilience action in partnership with non-Indigenous allies.

This joint initiative is a partnership between the team at the Climate Science Alliance and DRI, with the Indigenous Climate Stewardship Lead Tenaya Wood-Luna. This position is hosted in partnership by the Alliance and the DRI’s Climate Center, created to facilitate collaboration and promote Tribally-led climate resilience efforts across the Great Basin.

The Great Basin Tribal Alliance is an intentional, coordinated, ongoing convergence centered on Indigenous climate resiliency across the Great Basin region. This includes opportunities for information and resource sharing, capacity-building, training, workforce development, and natural resource planning and management that is both Indigenous-led and Indigenous-focused. Causes fitting within this realm needing our attention and action will be identified and prioritized, then a collective timeline will be built to plan, address, and engage efforts through funded programming, training, and workshops.

BUILDING CAPACITY THROUGH RECIPROCITY WITH TRIBAL COMMUNITIES

Guided by the Climate Science Alliance’s model of meaningful engagement, GBTA will support Indigenous involvement in California Nevada Adaptation Program (CNAP) activities by identifying Indigenous research priorities and advancing co-production of research through a Working Group process, fellowship stipends, and funding for Indigenous-led projects. Each project will strive to bring together community members, researchers, and pertinent partners to support frontline and historically underrepresented and excluded communities to address Indigenous led, Indigenous focused adaptation challenges and solutions across the Great Basin region. All projects recognize and prioritize the critical importance of incorporating local and traditional knowledge in project processes, outputs, and outcomes.
